To be able to achieve certain things in life you need to have goals in play in order to reach them.

I want to keep this blog short and sweet. I want you to be able to take away some key points on how to set goals so you can be on your way working towards the things you want in life.

Having goals big and small, gives us a sense of meaning and purpose, and can lead us in the direction we want to go in life.

Goals are great because they cause us to push and grow as an individual in ways we never thought we could

To accomplish goals, you need to know how to set them.

You can’t just simply “expect” them to happen. There is a process that starts with what you want to achieve, a lot of hard work to get to the end goal and in most cases you are going to have some set backs that are just out of your control.

Knowing how to overcome those hurdles will keep you on the right track to still get to where you want to be.

Where to Start?

You need to know what it is you want so you can start working towards it.

Take a piece of paper and sit in your own presence. No technology and think about something that you love or you want to do in life.

It could be to do with health and fitness, a new business venture, travelling etc. Choose something that gets you buzzing and full of excitement.

Start to write these goals down. At this stage you are feeling excited and ready to tackle them.

This is one of the reasons why goal setting is so successful because it motivates us to take action.

Tell someone.

Now some people might think you are crazy, but they say, “If your goals don’t sound crazy, they aren’t big enough”

Don’t let people discourage you. If your mind can believe it, you can achieve it.

When you tell someone your goals, it’s out in the open. By telling people, you are more likely to stick to them.

It also gives you that next level of accountability. It’s easy to give ourselves permission to slacken off. So having someone know your goals will give you more motivation to want to keep moving forward.

Short and long-term goals.

It’s a good idea to set small and long term goals. Setting smaller goals and achieving them will keep you on the path to successfully reach the long-term goals.

When you write down short-term goals, try and fit them in with specific dates in which you need to have achieved them by.

This is going to help you stay on track weekly so you don’t go astray waiting for the long-term goals.

Make an action plan.

This step can be easily missed. You can get so caught up and excited about the outcome but not have action steps in play in order to actually get there.

Write out individual steps you need to do and cross them off once you have completed each one. This is going to allow you to see that you are making progress forward to your ultimate goal.

Keep going.

Working towards goals can be frustrating at times and you wish that it would just happen already. Don’t worry, we all experience this from time to time.

If you are struggling to cross off the next step, ask for help. Remember you don’t have to be in this alone. Asking for help is something a lot of people hold back on, but it can get you moving forward a lot faster then you think.


Celebrating the wins big and small. Be sure to let anyone know that may have helped you along the way, that you are thankful and you appreciate his or her help and support. It can really go a long way.

Once you have celebrated the success of achieving your goals, it’s time to sit down and plan out the next set of goals.

Now you know that you can achieve amazing things in life with some planning and hard work. If your dreams don’t scare you, dream bigger.
